"Progress" Pride Flag

About the "Progress" Pride Flag
"When the Pride flag was recreated in 2017 and 2018 to include both black/brown stripes, as well as the trans stripes, I wanted to see if there could be more emphasis in the design of the flag to elevate its message. This new design forces the viewer to reflect on their own feelings towards the original Pride flag and its meaning as well as the differing opinions on who that flag really represents, while also bringing into clear focus the current needs within our community. You can’t avoid the message as it is right there in front of you." [1]

Black is to indicate a distinct identity in those without gender. The color black for agender persons is chosen for its correspondence with black being the total absence of color in the light spectrum. White acknowledges the historical use as an all-inclusive color for anyone who is non-binary in sex and/or gender and the identity color of black to be placed against to indicate its specific grouping within that traditionally generalized non-binary color." [1] "The four-stripe agender flag is an homage to the original, widely-used seven-stripe agender flag created by Salem in 2014... They're similar in color scheme (black, gray, white, green). However, the new flag has a deliberately higher-contrast design with fewer stripes and emphasizes solidarity of agender people who may also be lesbian, gay, bi, nonbinary, trans, ace, etc. by representing agenderness in one stripe. No matter what else we are, all agender people are wholly equally agender." [2]

Asexual Pride Flag
Details
About the Asexual Pride Flag
"Asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction to others, or low or absent interest in or desire for sexual activity. It may be considered the lack of a sexual orientation, or one of the variations thereof, alongside heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality. It may also be categorized more widely to include a broad spectrum of asexual sub-identities. Asexuality is distinct from abstention from sexual activity and from celibacy, which are behavioral and generally motivated by factors such as an individual's personal or religious beliefs. Sexual orientation, unlike sexual behavior, is believed to be "enduring". Some asexual people engage in sexual activity despite lacking sexual attraction or a desire for sex, due to a variety of reasons, such as a desire to pleasure themselves or romantic partners, or a desire to have children." About the Bear Pride Flag
"In male gay culture, a bear is often a larger or obese hairier man who projects an image of rugged masculinity. Bears are one of many LGBT communities with events, codes, and a culture-specific identity. However, in San Francisco in the 1970s any hairy man of whatever shape was referred to as a 'bear' until the term was appropriated by larger men and other words had to be used to describe hairy other-shaped men such as otter (slim), cub (young bear on the way), or wolf (hairy, medium build)." About the Bigender Pride Flag
"Bigender, bi-gender or dual gender is a gender identity that includes any two gender identities and behaviors. Some bigender individuals express two distinct personas, which may be feminine, masculine, agender, androgyne, or other gender identities; others find that they identify as two genders simultaneously. A 1999 survey conducted by the San Francisco Department of Public Health observed that, among the transgender community, less than 3% of those who were assigned male at birth and less than 8% of those who were assigned female at birth identified as bigender." [1] Several sources identify this as an Intersex Pride Flag, claiming that the creator, Natalie Phox, renamed the flag later to clarify the identity it represents. [2], [3]. About the Gay Pride Flag (1979)
"The rainbow flag, commonly known as the gay pride flag or LGBT pride flag, is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) pride and LGBT social movements... The colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, as the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride during LGBT rights marches. While this use of the rainbow flag originated in Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area, the flag is now used worldwide. Originally devised by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker, the design has undergone several revisions since its debut in 1978." [1]

Gay Pride Flag (UK Variant)
Details
About the Gay Pride Flag (UK Variant)
"Gay is a term that primarily refers to a homosexual person or the trait of being homosexual. The term was originally used to mean "carefree", "cheerful", or "bright and showy". The term's use as a reference to homosexuality may date as early as the late 19th century, but its use gradually increased in the mid-20th century. In modern English, gay has come to be used as an adjective, and as a noun, referring to the community, practices and cultures associated with homosexuality. In the 1960s, gay became the word favored by homosexual men to describe their sexual orientation. By the end of the 20th century, the word gay was recommended by major LGBT groups and style guides to describe people attracted to members of the same sex." [1]

"The gender creative pride flag is constructed of two exterior lavender fields in opposition, a composite of the pink and blue fields found in the transgender pride flag and an interior white field one-fifth the proportion to the remainder. Lavender represents the blurring of binary gender norms whereas white represents freedom of gender expression." [1]

About the Lesbian Feminism Pride Flag (Labrys)
"Lesbian feminism is a cultural movement and critical perspective, most influential in the 1970s and early 1980s (primarily in North America and Western Europe), that encourages women to direct their energies toward other women rather than men, and often advocates lesbianism as the logical result of feminism. In the words of lesbian feminist Sheila Jeffreys, "Lesbian feminism emerged as a result of two developments: lesbians within the WLM (Women's Liberation Movement) began to create a new, distinctively feminist lesbian politics, and lesbians in the GLF (Gay Liberation Front) left to join up with their sisters". According to Judy Rebick, a leading Canadian journalist and feminist activist, lesbians were and always have been at the heart of the women's movement, while their issues were invisible in the same movement. Lesbian feminism of color emerged as a response to lesbian feminism thought that failed to incorporate the issues of class and race as sources of oppression along with heterosexuality." [1]

About the Neutrois Pride Flag
"Neutrois is a non-binary gender identity which is often associated with a "neutral" or "null" gender. It may also be associated with genderlessness, and shares many similarities with agender - people who consider themselves neutrally gendered or genderless, but some may identify as both, while others may prefer one term or the other. You can be a nonbinary gender and agender/no gender at the same time, go between them, or fluctuate between feeling a gender and not feeling gender. Emphasizes being a nonbinary gender. Spelled nxnbinary with an X instead of an O as if you’re crossing out that you’re a gender. Kinda similar to demigender (where agender/no gender is the non-gendered part), agenderflux (with fluctuations between agender and a gender), or being genderfluid between agender/no gender and a nonbinary gender. Pangender Pride Flag (white center)
Details
About the Pangender Pride Flag (white center)
"Pangender refers to a vast and diverse multiplicity of genders in the same individual that can infinitely extend, being always within the person's own culture and life experience. This experience can be either simultaneously or over time. Pangender is a multigender that is very expansive and not very specific, meaning that there are so many genders that it’s difficult or impossible to list all of them. There is no maximum limit to the amount of genders. Being pangender is feeling an entire infinite gender spectrum that is possible for an individual to have. The pangender experience can go beyond the current knowledge of genders. The Greek prefix "pan" refers to "everything" or "all". Therefore, pangender means "having all genders it’s possible to have" and other similar definitions." [1]

Pansexual Pride Flag
Details
About the Pansexual Pride Flag
"Pansexuality, or omnisexuality, is the sexual, romantic or emotional attraction towards people regardless of their sex or gender identity. Pansexual people may refer to themselves as gender-blind, asserting that gender and sex are not determining factors in their romantic or sexual attraction to others. Pansexuality may be considered a sexual orientation in its own right or a branch of bisexuality, to indicate an alternative sexual identity. Because pansexual people are open to relationships with people who do not identify as strictly men or women, and pansexuality therefore rejects the gender binary, it is often considered a more inclusive term than bisexual. To what extent the term bisexual is inclusive when compared with the term pansexual is debated within the LGBT community, especially the bisexual community." [1]

Polysexual Pride Flag

About the Polysexual Pride Flag
"Polysexuality is sexual attraction to multiple, but not all, genders. A polysexual person is one "encompassing or characterized by many different kinds of sexuality." Authors Linda Garnets and Douglas Kimmel state that polysexual is a sexual identity "used by people who recognize that the term bisexual reifies the gender dichotomy that underlies the distinction between heterosexuality and homosexuality, implying that bisexuality is nothing more than a hybrid combination of these gender and sexual dichotomies". However, bisexual people and scholars may object to the notion that bisexuality means sexual attraction to only two genders, arguing that since bisexual is not simply about attraction to two sexes and encompasses attraction to different genders as well, it includes attraction to more than two genders." Transgender Pride Flag (Jennifer Pellinen)

About the Transgender Pride Flag (Jennifer Pellinen)
"I came up with the idea for the transgender flag a few years ago. At the time I did not know of any other flag designs. The design was created for TG pride. another reson I made the flag is that most cross dressers are not gay. If they use the rainbow flag people will think they are gay. The colors on the flag are from top to bottom. Pink, light purple, medium purple, dark purple, and blue. The pink and the blue represent male and female. The 3 purple stripes represent the diversity of the TG community as well as genders other than male and female." [1]
